08.03.2021. International Women’s Day

On Monday 8th March 2021, ALEBA and the members of the Equal opportunities Commission wish all women a happy day!

International Women’s Day was made official by the United Nations in 1977 and has its origins in the struggles of working women at the beginning of the 20th century for better working conditions and the right to vote. International Women’s Day, always celebrated on 8th March, in Luxembourg and around the world, is now an opportunity to take stock of progress made, to call for change and to celebrate the acts of courage and determination performed by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

On the occasion of this day, Statec published a study on the employment and wages of women and men in the Grand Duchy.

The study shows that in the financial sector, the remuneration gap between the two genders is very significant in terms of hourly wages (25%) and is further reinforced by gaps of around 50% on non-periodic bonuses.

Sensitive to these issues, ALEBA has notably put the themes of “Work-life balance” and “Parity & Diversity” at the center of its 2019 electoral programme, measures that aim at better equality between men and women in companies.

ALEBA will participate in the feminist march of Luxembourg City organized by the platform “International Women’s Day”.
