08.03.2017 | International Women’s Day
On 8th March, ALEBA and the members of the Equal Opportunities Commission would like to wish every woman all the best for International Women’s Day 2017.
First officially recognised by the United Nations in 1977, the origin of International Women’s Day dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when women workers struggled to achieve improved working conditions and the right to vote. Celebrated on 8th March in Luxembourg and internationally, this day is a chance to assess progress made by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their country and their community.
In particular, we see social progress thanks to many political reforms, but unfortunately, some mentalities still need to change, and the struggle is far from being over. The objective of ALEBA’s Equal Opportunities Commission is to work within enterprises through the Equality delegates attached to ALEBA. Thanks to close cooperation between delegates, and using their knowledge and experience, the Commission has been able to create services designed to deal with specific problems related to inequality within enterprises.
ALEBA representatives and the Commission would like to remind you that we are participating in the Cultural and Feminist Festival being held on Sunday 12th March 2017 at the Abbaye de Neumunster from 11am. Everyone is invited, and we hope many of you will be able to make it. See here for the programme.
